Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain adequate output current all the time by connecting the primary windings of an armature and the auxiliary windings thereof in series when the rotating speed is low and in parallel when a certain rotating speed is exceeded, and alternately changing the connection by a relay device. CONSTITUTION:An AC generator 1 that is driven by an internal conbustion engine is provided with armature windings 2, a rectifier 3, and a field winding 4; and the armature windings 2 comprises Y-connected primary windings 21-23 and auxiliary windings 21'-23' which are arranged with the primary windings. They are connected to the rectifier 3 via a relay device 5 containing an energizing coil 50, three B contacts, and six A contacts. At the time of start, the primary and auxiliary windings are connected in series through the relay device 5, and generating is performed. When the predetermined rotating speed is exceeded, the coil 50 is energized, and the generating is performed with both windings being connected in parallel. Therefore, the rise up at the low speed is quick, the large output power is obtained at the high speed, and the adequate charging current can be obtained.
