431,342. Hair - curling appliances. OSBORNE, GARRETT, & CO., Ltd., 51, Frith Street, London, and NANCARROW, W., 30, Duke Street, Whitehaven, Cumberland. Jan. 3, 1934, No. 275. [Class 131] A hand - operated appliance adapted to be rotated and moved axially along a curler to wind a tress of hair thereon is provided with a brush device the bristles of which project towards and in proximity to the curler so that the hair, which passes beneath the device, is smoothly applied to the curler. The appliance comprises a tubular casing or sleeve 5, adapted to contain the curler 6 and provided with a gap or opening in the wall which grips or engages the hair 7, whereby the tress is disposed at right angles with respect to the curler, the brush 11 being situated adjacent the gap. In the form shown, the brush 11 is carried by a hinged flap 8, and the edges of the gap through which the tress passes are provided with rollers 9, 10. In modifications, the casing 5, comprises two semi-cylindrical sections hinged together longitudinally, the roller 9 is resiliently mounted, and the roller 10 is carried by a bearing adapted to support the end of the curler. In a further modification, the roller 9 is dispensed with, and the bearing plate is provided with rollers for supporting the curler.
