[Class 8 (ii)] [See also Group X] An hermetically sealable chamber for use as protection against poison gases, contains an air filter comprising two columns through which the air passes in series from top to bottom, each column being composed of superposed trays 17 formed for example by rolling sheet iron into hollow cylinders. The trays have internal flanges 18 supporting reticulated screens 19, and circular extensions 20 on their lower sides engaging corresponding recesses 21 on the upper sides of the trays beneath them, rubber or like packing 22 being interposed. The trays are held together by bolts passing through flanges at the ends of the columns and contain fibrous filtering material, active carbon, alkaline peroxides, calcium carbonate and other gas reacting materials, supported ou the screens 19 and in quantity such as to leave an expansion space 24 between each tray.
