430,678. Valves. HUME, R. H., 24, Priory Road, Edgbaston, and PALSER, J., 223, Sarehole Road, Hall Green, both in Birmingham. Feb. 16, 1934, No. 5120. [Class 135] [See also Group XI] In a pressure burner for furnaces &c., air and gas, supplied respectively through an inlet 4 and a sleeve 12, and an inlet 6 and rings of apertures 9, to the mixing-tube 1, are simultaneously controlled by axial adjustment of the sleeve 12 as by means of a circular rack 14 and a pinion 15, the air supply being controlled independently of the gas by rotation of the sleeve. The corresponding air ports 5, 29 in the inlet 4 and the sleeve 12 are of equilateral triangular shape and of such size that the relative proportion of air and gas remains substantially constant when the sleeve is axially adjusted. The pinion 15 and the spindle 13 are provided with graduated operating discs 20, 24, an adjustable screwed stud 27 limiting the axial movement of the sleeve. Helical or other oil grooves may be provided in the outer surface of the sleeve, or the inner surface of the body 2, and communicate with one or more oil cups on the body.
