Abstract

429,058. Connecting and disconnecting friction gearing. WOLSELEY SHEEP SHEARING MACHINE CO., Ltd., and WARDROPPER, J. B., Electric Avenue, Witton, Birmingham. Feb. 26, 1934, No. 6166. [Class 80 (i)] Relates to a drive for shearing - heads of sheep shearing and like machines of the type in which a horizontal driving-shaft D carrying a large bevel gear E is mounted in a bracket A, which also carries a small bevel wheel F connected by a flexible shaft to the shearing - head and adapted to be moved into and out of engagement with the wheel E. According to the invention, the bearing h for the shaft G of the wheel F is carried on a lever H pivoted to the bracket A at a and adapted to be rocked by a rod K operated by an eccentric n or crank-pin fixed to a shaft N rotatable in thebracket. To adjust the frictional pressure between the gears E and F, the rod K may be secured to the lever H by a pin J having an eccentric end j, the pin being rotatable by a screwdriver engaging the slot j<2>, and being locked in adjusted position by a cotter pin L. The shaft N is rotated through about 180‹ to engage or disengage the drive by a lever P weighted at Q and operated by a string p<2>, the movement being limited by a stop pin n<3> on the eccentric n, so that in each position the eccentric or crank-pin is approximately at dead centre.
