Abstract
384,418. Dish-washing machines. HEYMAN, K. W., 31, Narvavagen, Stockholm. Nov. 11, 1931, No. 31280. [Class 138 (i).] A dish-washing machine comprises a movable spraying device adapted to be connected to a source of water under pressure and to supply water to a dish-trough, in which the direction of motion imparted by means of a driving device to the spraying device is automatically reversed so that the latter is reciprocated in a predetermined path above the dish-trough. In one arrangement, as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 5, the spraying device 2 is connected to a rotary spindle 8 driven by means of a turbine-aggregate. The latter comprises blade wheels 19, 20, which work in opposite directions, and corresponding nozzles 21, 22, communicating with a cylinder 23 to which a pipe 17, supplying water, is connected. A slide 24 is provided in the cylinder 23, and by adjusting this slide, the pipe 17 is put into communication either with the nozzle 21, or the nozzle 22, which results in the shaft 25 common to the wheels 19, 20, being rotated in one or the other direction, its motion being transmitted to the spindle 8 by means of toothed wheels 29, 30, 31. The slide 24 is adjusted by means of a rod 26 provided with abutments 27 which are acted upon by the spraying device. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 6, an electric motor 35 is used as the driving power, and it is connected to the screw spindle 8 by means of toothed wheels 36, 37, 39, 41. The motion of the spraying device 2 is reversed by the co-operation of an angular lever 42 with the abutments 27, in such a way that one or other of the wheels 39, 40 engages the wheel 41 mounted on the rotary spindle 8. In a further arrangement, Figs. 7, 8, 9 and 10, water is supplied to two cylinders 46 mounted on the spraying device 2, and the motion of the cylinder pistons 47 is transmitted to a shaft 53 so that it is caused to rotate. The reciprocating movement of the pistons 47 is controlled by slide valves 70 which, at the end of the stroke of the pistons respectively, are shifted by levers 50 acting upon abutments 72 of the slide valve rods 71. The rotary motion of the shaft 53 is transmitted by one of two bevel gear wheels 54 to a wheel 56, on the shaft 57 of which a chain wheel 58 is fixed. The wheel 58 engages with a chain 59 which moves the spraying device 2 in one direction or the other, and the motion is continued until one end of a yokeshaped rod 60 strikes one of two abutments 61 provided on the chain 59. The rod 60 is thus caused to slide in its bearings, which results in a slide valve 64, adapted to control the supply of water to a cylinder 65, being shifted from one of its end positions to the other. The piston-rod 66 then shifts a double disengaging clutch 55 so that the wheel 54 which previously ran idle is now connected to the shaft 53. The wheel brought into engagement then constitutes the driving wheel, and rotates the wheel 56 in the opposite direction.
