Abstract

428,887. Window regulators; pivoted-sliding windows. STROUD, W. G. C., and STROUD, W. H. F., 22, Langton Avenue, East Ham, London. April 17, 1934, No. 11544. [Class 20 (iii)] A window comprises the combination of a plurality of pivoted and slidable co-planar sashes, with means for tilting the sashes about horizontal axes, and means for raising and lowering them, when in the tilted position, the sashes being adapted to lie parallel and close to each other when in the open position. In the construction shown, each sash 8, shown in sectional plan in Fig. 2, is pivotally mounted on two runners 11 which pass through vertical slots 65 in the stiles 1. The runners may directly engage with openings formed in the sides of the sashes or the sashes may have spring-containing sockets for receiving the runners. Each runner 11 is provided with two rollers 12, Fig. 8, adapted to run on the limbs of a U-shaped vertical rail 19. The runners are interconnected by pairs of links 23, 24, the angular movements of which are limited by pin-and-slot connections 25, 33. The sashes are tilted by a pair of interconnected vertical members 49 arranged one on each side of the window frame to which they are pivoted by links 46. Each member carries an angle-bar 52 which engage behind pins 50 carried by arms 51 on the sashes. The members are moved to tilt the sashes by a sillboard 42 pivoted to the stiles at 44 and to the members 49 at 45. The sillboard is normally locked in the sash-closing position by a pivoted catch 62 which can be released by a hand knob 63. The tilted sashes are raised and lowered by two endless chains 35 which are connected to the runner of the lowermost sash. The chains pass over upper and lower sprocket wheels the upper ones of which are mounted on a common shaft 35<1>. The chains are operated by means of a handle 40 and bevel gears 38, 39. The sashes are provided with weather strips 9, 10.
