Abstract

383,707. Pivoted - sliding windows. PARSONS, J., Cromwell Works, Earlsdon Avenue, Coventry. Oct. 5,1931, No. 27673. [Class 20 (iii).] The two sliding sashes 14, 16, Fig. 1, of a window are interconnected at each side of the window by a chain 19 passing over a sprocket wheel 27, and the sashes are mounted in a subsidiary frame 11, 12, 13 which is pivotally mounted within a fixed window frame about a vertical or a horizontal axis. In the form shown, having two sliding sashes 14, 16 and a central fixed sash 15, the chains 19 are endless and pass around sprocket wheels 27, 30. The edges of the sash stiles are rabbeted to receive the chains and are fitted with metal plates 21 to which the links of the chains are secured. The subsidiary frame pivots about pins 31, Figs. 5 and 6, extending laterally therefrom and engaging in open-ended inclined slots 33 in the window frame 39. The engagement permits of the pivotal movement or complete removal of the subsidiary frame. Draught-excluding strips 34 are connected to the pivoted edges of the subsidiary frame in such manner that they may be moved to a position which permits the frame to swing on its pivots, or removed. Instead of rabbeting the stiles of the sashes to accommodate the chains, the sashes may be grooved or, alternatively, the chains may be guided between channels formed by securing fillets 36, 37, 38 to the stile 11.
