Sashes balanced by weights; draught excluders.-In sliding-sash windows, the lower sash. is connected at each side to a weight sliding in a channel in the same plane as the uppersash, and the upper sash is connected at each side to a weight shding in a channel in the same plane as the lower sash. The cords 2, 6, connected to the sashes 1, 5 respectively, pass over pulleys 3, 7 and are connected to weights 4, 8, which slide in channels between frame members 10, 11, 12, secured to a plate 9 and carrying the stop and parting beads 17, 18, 19. The members 10, 11. 12 are grooved at 13 to form guides for pins 14 on the balance weights, which mayproject into grooves in the sash stiles, and transverse grooves leading to the grooves 13 are formed in the members 10, 11, 12 to allow the sash weights to be removed. The sash-weight channels may be closed by channelled strips 16 engaging the grooved sash stiles; or channelled strips 22 secured in the sash stiles may be formed with flanged ends entering grooves 21 in the members 10, 11, 12, for the purpose of excluding draught.
