The present invention is concerned withthe provision of a window construction of sub stantijally conventional appearance in which two sliding sashes are mounted in a win dow frame, either or both of the sashes being capable of inward swinging movement in order that their 'outersurfaces may be readily cleaned without danger of a cleaner falling out of the "window.
It is an object of the invention to provide a window embodying this feature of construction, while retainingsubstantially the conventional appearance of :an ordinary llliththe above noted and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangement-sot parts, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims. The invention may be more fully understood from the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings, whereinn Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view through a window embodying the present invention.

Referring first to Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawings, I have shown a. window frame 10 in which are slidaibly mounted the usual outer upper sash 1'1 and-lowersash 12. 'Thesliding movement of these sashes may be guided by the outer weather strip 13, inner moulding'str'ip 14 anducentral parting st-rip- 15. Sash =cords l6 of conventional construction are employed, or the lower ends of the sash cords may 'bemade of wirefl? if desired, -so thatthe cords will not interfere withthe inwardswinging-movement of the two sashes when the lower sections 14 and 15 of the moulding-strips and parting strips respec tively are removed. The top of the upper sash "is cut away as indicated in dotted lines at 11 so that it will not ,gain on the sash cord as the sash is swung'inwardly.

may be swung inwardlyand upwardly about thebolts 19 as pivots and latch in its'inwardly and upwardly swung position in any approved" manner as for instance by the fleiiihledevices23 anchored to the window frames and engaging hooks 24 mountedon the sash. i V i A substantially similar construction is used at the under corners of the upper sash, except that in this instance the bolts 25 are formed with eye portions 26 projected into 7 engagement with studs 27 extending inwardly from the window frames. Bolts 25 slide in guides or sleeves 28 and are operated by handles 29. The upper sliding sash may be swung inwardly and downwardly about the studs 27 as pivots and hung in this position by flexible devices 30. \Vithout removing the strip sections the lower sash may be slightly lifted and locked by its bolts, providing ventilation without danger of a child gumbling' through the partially opened win- In Figs. 5, (Sand 7 I have illustrated a modification of the invention in which the use of the pivot bolts is eliminated, and both of the sashes capable of inward and upward swinging movement. Difierent means is used for supporting the sashes in their inwardly swung position, and mechanism is shown for latching the removable moulding strip sections 14" to the stationary sections 14.
In this form of the invention, bolts 31 guided within sleeves 32 fixed to the upper moulding strip sections 14 have limited movement due to the presence of a pin 33 passing through slots (not shown) in the bolts. The ends of the bolts are adapted to be projected downwardly into keeper members 31 carried by the lower removable moulding strip sections 14.
In this form of the invention with the lower sections of the moulding strips and parting strips removed, the two sashes 11 and 12 may be swung upwardly and 111- wardly together, or individually, and retained in this position by the use of inwardly swinging levers 35 pivoted as at 36 to the outer face of the window frames or to a wall adjacent the frames and carrying locking members 37 adapted to work in any of a series of holes 38 in the window frames or wall. Coacting with the levers 35 are swinging levers 39 pivoted to the outer portions of the window frames and adapted to be swung to the position of Fig. 6 where they engage under the keeper members 3 1. The two sashes when moved to the position of Fig. 6 are thus locked against accidental downward swinging movement by the cooperative action of bars 39 and levers 35. With this form of the invention, conventional sash cords may be used. Obviously, the bolts and keepers for removably connecting the two sections of the moulding strips might be used with the construction of Figs. 1 and 2, although I have not illustrated them in connection with this form of the invention also chains may be utilized if desire Various changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention.- Hence I do not wish to limit myself to the details set forth, but shall consider myself-at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A window including a frame, upper and lower sliding sashes therein, parting strips and moulding strips guiding the sliding movement of the sashes and including lower removable sections to permit the sashes toibe swung inwardly, means for holding the sashes in inwardly and upwardly swung position when the lower strip sections are removed, including levers pivoted to the inner face of the frame and swinging inwardly under the upwardly swung sashes in planes parallel to the planes of sliding movement of the sashes.
2. A window including a frame, upper and lower sliding sashes therein, parting strips and moulding strips guiding the sliding movement of the sashes and including lower removable sections to permit the sashes to be swung inwardly, means for holding the sashes in inwardly and upwardly swung position when the lower strip sections are removed, including levers pivoted to the inner face of the frame and swinging inwardly under the upwardly swung sashes, and levers pivoted to the outer portions of the frame and swingable inwardly and upwardly to overlie the outer ends of the inwardly swung sashes.
