Abstract

428,838. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Feb. 7, 1935, No. 3988. Convention date, April 19, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] A vapour filled tube attaining a temperature in excess of 200‹ C. during operation is folded to form four parallel parts, and the cap is secured to the tube at a point between the ends so that the ends are free to expand. The tube may be a lamp, and may contain sodium, cadmium or other difficultly volatile metal together with neon and a small percentage of argon and may be enclosed in a double-walled evacuated vessel. In the form shown, the tube 1 has a clasp 7 secured around its middle by a screw 8. The clasp 7 is secured to a nickel saddle 6 on the porcelain cap 5, and is lined on the underside with asbestos 9. The saddle 6 is secured to the cap 5 by a pin 10 and a nut 11, and may serve as an auxiliary electrode, the pin 10 being shaped as a plug contact. The wall of the tube touching the saddle 6 is then sprayed by metal by the Schoop process. The supply wires 14 to the electrodes 3, 4 are sufficiently slack to allow the ends 2 of the tube to expand freely.
