Abstract

A stable reduction product of 6 : 6<1>-diethoxythioindigo is obtained by effecting the reduction with hydrosulphite or a formaldehydesulphoxylate in the absence of added alkali. The stability of the product is increased by the addition of a non-oxidizing acid. In an example, a printing paste is prepared by mixing a precipitate obtained by reducing 6 : 6<1>-diethoxythioindigo by means of sodium hydrosulphite at the boil, with potash, sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate, glycerine and a thickener.
