[Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] In a turbine, particularly a hydraulic turbine, in which regulation is effected by adjusting the angularity of the rotor blades, the scroll casing is positioned relatively to the rotor so that the water may whirl several times in the scroll before passing to the rotor. Several forms of scroll casing are described. The arrangement may be applied to centrifugal or screw pumps. The upper part of the volute casing may be left open.
