The instrument 11 may be an excess voltage relay which operates when the voltage of the winding 2 exceeds the continuous-current component derived from the battery 10, these voltages together with a blocking voltage obtained through transformer winding 6, being applied to the grid of a gasfilled discharge tube. A capacity potential divider may replace the voltage transformer 1. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
