Abstract

<PICT:0426981/III/1> The invention relates to apparatus for detecting inflammable gases, of the kind in which combustion of the gas upon an incandescent filament in a porous vessel produces a partial vacuum which operates a switch to light a warning lamp. According to the invention the switch also energizes a relay which then maintains the lamp alight independently of the detecting device. The Figure is a circuit diagram of one embodiment of the invention. The warning lamp 6 is in series with a lamp 5 of smaller capacity which normally glows while lamp 6 passes current without becoming incandescent. The collapse of the diaphragm 24 which communicates with the porous vessel closes contacts 22, 23 short-circuiting lamp 5 and causing lamp 6 to glow and also energizing relay 29 closing switch 30. The warning lamp is thus maintained slight until the relay circuit is broken by manually-operated switch 34.
