426,684. Driving-belts; conveyers. SOUTHWELL, R. J., and WICKWIRE, T. H., 511, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A. April 16, 1934, No. 11412. [Class 80 (i)] [See also Groups VIII and XXX] A belt comprises transverse cords 16<a> placed diagonally between longitudinal cords 14<a>, 14<b>, the whole being embedded in rubber or the like, preferably vulcanized under tension and compression. Additional thin layers of rubber may be provided between the cord layers, and strips of rubber 20<a> may form the edges of the belt. The cords may be temporarily held in position during manufacture by thin woof strands. In a modification, the cords 16<a> are wound on a central layer of longitudinal cords. In a further form, the cords 16<a> are folded to and fro in a zig-zag fashion.
