422,610. Driving-belts; conveyers; compound sheet materials. SOUTHWELL, R. J., and WICKWIRE, T. H., 511, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.. April 16, 1934, No. 11411. [Class 80 (i)] [See also Groups VIII and XXX] In a belt comprising longitudinal and transverse cords embedded in rubber, the total end area of the longitudinal cords on a cross-section of the belt exceeds that of the transverse cords. As shown, the belt comprises a central layer of cords 10 on each side of which is a zig-zag layer 12<a> of thinner cords. The whole is vulcanized preferably under tension and compression, with or without intermediate layers of rubber. The edges of the belt may be protected by rubber strips 14.
