Abstract

[Class 140] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXV] A laminated belt consists of two layers or plies of leather 12, one or each of which is formed with a shallow groove 14 on one side, and a non- stretching flexible fibrous reinforcement 10 placed between the two plies within said groove or grooves and cemented to them, the margins beyond the grooves being also cemented together. The reinforcement consists of a fully woven fabric tape which may be woven in the form of a ring, or if not endless, may be wound more than once round the belt. It is impregnated with and embedded in a layer of material, e.g., cellulose derivative, which acts as a cement to unite the two leather plies. In place of the fabric 10, a single cord may be wound helically round the belt. The fabric or cord may be pre-treated with rubber latex as described in Specification 477,393. For use with cone drums, the upper part 12, Fig. 7, only, is grooved, the lower part having a convex surface of the undisturbed " grain " or hair side of the leather.
