Abstract
337,176. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., and Sadler, S. Oct. 12, 1929. Belts. - A rubbered fabric belt is made by winding on a former 2 one or more strips 1, each in more than one convolution, preferably helically with overlapping edges, and then side-rolling the band thus formed on the former to circular form. The strip is of vegetable, animal, or artificial matter rubbered by coating or impregnating with material or synthetic rubber and, if desired, other ingredients, before or after being made up to belt form, and is of straightcut or cord fabric with its warp threads running longitudinally of the strip and with or without weft. The ends 3 are preferably chamfered and similarly placed circumferentially of the drum. The belt may be covered by rubbered canvas or other fabric 4 cut on the bias and laid on the former in a single layer with its ends overlappig, being taken up with the band 1 during the siderolling operation. A core of rubbered cord or other fabric may be provided. In order to tension the belt during shaping and vulcanization on the mould 7, it is rolled over a tapered guide 5, or alternatively the former 2 may be tapered.
