[Class 80 (i)] [See also Groups IX and XXV] To make a driving-belt of the fabric envelope and cord layer type run straight on its pulleys, it is built up as follows : (i) the rubberized envelope fabric is applied to a pair of spaced building drums ; (ii) a layer or layers of cords of alternately opposite twist are run on to the envelope until between 40 and 90 per cent of the cords have been applied ; (iii) the partially completed belt is run on the building drums to test for side movement ; (iv) cords of a twist opposite to the direction of movement are then applied until the belt runs straight ; and (v) the fabric edges are folded over the core and the belt is vulcanized in the usual manner. The fabric cover may comprise warp threads which are alternately of left-hand and righthand twist. The weft threads may be all of the same twist or of alternate right and left twist. The core may consist of a single layer of cords of alternate left and right-hand twist, or half of the cords may be of left and half of right-hand twists, or the core may be divided in alternate groups of opposite twist. The warp threads of the fabric cover may be similarly arranged. British Specification 390,163 and U.S.A. Specification 1,676,845 are referred to.
