Abstract

425,633. Vehicle lamps. LANE, J. A., and LANE, A. S., 38, Forston Street, New North Road, London. Nov. 21, 1933, No. 32419. [Class 75 (iv)] Mounting electric lamps in lanterns.-A vehicle or like lamp is provided with a pair of electric lamp-holders 15 mounted opposite each other, one on each side of the reflector 1, so that they will take either a single tubular electric lamp 8, as shown in Fig. 1, or a pair of electric lamp bulbs, as shown in Fig. 3, the holders being adjustable from a distance to vary the focus of the lamp or lamps. Along the upper and lower edges of an elongated slot in each of the sides of the trough-shaped reflector 1, is mounted a pair of guides 3, each formed of material of rectangular section with a groove along the edge adjacent the slot. The pair of grooves receive the edges of a flange 4C provided on a bush 4. One end of the flange is connected to a spring 6, and the other to a strip 11 operated by a Bowd.en wire so as to move the two flanged bushes 4 backwards and forward. Slidably mounted in the bushes 4 are the lamp-holders 15, to which square bushes 21 are attached. Pins 20 on the bushes 21 pass through slots in plates 19, which are detachably mounted on the guides 3. Thus, as the bushes slide backwards and forwards the lamp - holders are kept the same distance apart. If desired, the holders and lamp or lamps may be fixed in position by screws 5. When a pair of lamp - bulbs is used, the same arrangement may be used, or the plates 19 may be removed and the bulbholders fixed in the bushes, or the holders 15 may be pivotally mounted, as shown in Fig. 3, the bushes 4A and flanges 4B being made in separate parts. The bushes 4A are pivoted on screws 16 passing through the guides 3. The plates 19 may be removed, as shown, and the holders 15 fixed in the bushes 4A by the screws 5, or the plates 19 may be in position, and the holders may be free to slide or fixed in the bushes. A detachable back cover 23 is attached by a bolt 25 and nut 26 to a metal strap 24 passing across the back of the casing 2. The actuating cable passes through the bolt 25. According to the Provisional Specification, the lamp may be pivoted about a horizontal axis for dipping.
