[Class 100 (ii)] [See also Groups VII and VIII] A process for forming two parallel channels in a sheet of cardboard or the like is characterized in that, on passing through the machine, the longitudinal edges of the sheet are displaced towards its longitudinal centre line, and the transverse arching so formed is then flattened to produce the inner walls of the channels, whilst the channels are completed by displacing the longitudinal edges of the sheet towards the position of the channels. The feed rollers 1, 1<1>, Fig. 3, are set in planes converging in the direction of motion towards the centre line of the sheet 3 in order to produce the transverse arching X, which is flattened between rollers 2, 2<1>, Fig. 4, the inner walls of the channels being shaped by stationary blades 8 and rings 5 projecting from the rollers 2<1>. The free edges of the sheet are then pressed against the outer side of the rings 5 and rollers 2<1> by obliquely mounted discs 10 of ridge-shaped peripheral cross-section to complete the channels. The rings 5 may turn freely in grooves in the rollers 2<1>, and are supported by rollers 15, at least one of which is adjustable up and down to vary the projection of the ring 5 above the roller 21, so varying the depth of the channels produced. The feed rollers 1, 11 and the rollers 2, 21 are positively driven, but the discs 10 are mounted idly. All the members serving to form the channels in the cardboard are adjustable so as to be caused to converge, or diverge, to vary the spacing of the channels in the cardboard.
