Abstract

531,329. Cardboard &c. boxes. JACKSON, D. R. P., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. July 18, 1939, No. 20848. [Class 18] A cardboard &c. inner member for a box, is made from the blank shown in Fig. 7 by bringing panels 15 into juxtaposition to form a rib, and turning up flanges 15b to form trays, and web 1, Fig. 1, is passed from a reel (not shown) between cutting and scoring rollers 4, whence it passes between two pairs of feed rollers 7, 8, the latter of which are pressed by springs 14, and the second pair having segments 16 mounted on knurled roller 7 which holds flanges 15b upwards. Flanges 15b then pass behind stationary folders 17 while the blank is moved between rollers 18, 19 the peripheries of which have mating V-notches and V-edges as in Fig. 3 which commence to form the rib. The rib is completed by two more pairs of rollers 20, 21 and 22, 23 generally similar to the pair 18, 19*and a pair 24, 25, the lower of which has a flat periphery and the upper of which has a parallel-sided groove. The lower roller 25 may alternatively have a blade-like projection which lies between the fold of the rib. The number of pairs of rollers may be varied. In an alternative form the blanks pass from the cutting mechanism to feed rollers 69, Fig. 9, and over the surface of a table 70 where their upper surfaces are engaged by rollers 71 which produce the desired configuration.
