Abstract

[Class 23] [See also Group VIII] In a washing-machine having means for axially reciprocating a plunger plate 5 within a perforated receptacle 4 and for rotating the receptacle in a casing 1, either separately or simultaneously at will, the gearing and controls therefor are carried on a cross-bar 21 pivoted to the casing at 22 so that the whole of the mechanism can be swung up to give unobstructed access to the casing and receptacle. The hollow shaft 19 for rotating the receptacle is secured to the cover 20 thereof and is driven through bevel gear 18, 17, clutch 25 and shaft 12, the latter being driven either from an electric motor 7 through bevel gear 10, 11 or from a hand crank 6 and spur gear 13, 16. The clutch 25 may be thrown out and a connecting rod 14 may be coupled to the plunger shaft 15 by means of a clamping screw 24 and sleeve 26 whereby the plunger may be reciprocated either by the hand crank or the motor. The cross-bar 21 may be secured in the operative position by a bolt 23.
