Abstract

424,814. Bowden mechanism; linkwork. LITTLE, C. R., 5, Primrose Hill Street, Coventry, Warwickshire. Aug. 25, 1934, No. 24527. [Class 80 (iii)] Control mechanism for actuation of a remote part positively in both directions, comprises a pair of similar rigid driving members mechanically connected and operable by a rotatable control arranged between them to actuate in opposite directions flexible means connected to them and also to a pair of similar rigid driven members also interconnected by a rotatable means arranged between them. The flexible connecting means may be Bowden mechanism or wire held taut by pulleys. Driving members 12, 13, Fig. 1, are connected through Bowden mechanism 20, 21 with driven members 17, 18 respectively, the members being toothed and each pair interconnected by pinions 15, 19. In modifications, the members are (1) notched and each pair engaged by opposite ball-shaped ends of a rocker arm; (2) rectangular to prevent tilting thereof; (3) actuated by oppositelyhanded screw threads and (4) pulleys integral with gears engaging a pinion. In Fig. 4, two sets of driving devices 26, 27 are actuated by two pinions 15 on the same spindle 28. Each driving device has each of its driving members connected at each end to a Bowden mechanism so that four remote controls can be simultaneously actuated. Alternatively adjacent ends of the driving members may each be connected to two or more pairs of Bowden mechanism as at 29, 30.
