Abstract

486,532. Controlling change -speed gearing. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd., and OLIVER, C. S. Dec. 4, 1936, No. 33292. [Class 80 (ii)] Relates to means for operating selectively four striker forks 31<1>, 321, 331, 341, Fig. 2, in changespeed gearing, and is described in connection with the subject-matter of Specification 486,567. These four forks are rigid with four parallel sliding rods 31, 32, 33, 34, which have rack teeth and are arranged two and two, spaced apart. Transversely between the two pairs of striker rods are two rock-shafts 43, 44 with rock sleeves 45, 46 respectively upon each. The shaft 43 carries a pinion quadrant 41 meshing with the rack teeth on the rod 33. The sleeve 45 upon it carries a quadrant 42 meshing with the teeth of the rod 34. The shaft 44 carries a quadrant 37 meshing with the teeth of the rod 31, and the sleeve 46 upon it a quadrant 38 engaging the rod 32. The two shafts 43, 45 and their two sleeves 45, 46 each carry one selector' arm 47, and by suitable means these four arms 47 may be operated to operate tho forks in the combinations desired.
