Abstract
424,598. Converting. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and BLIGH, N. R., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Jan. 5, 1934, No. 450. [Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XL] In an arrangement for obtaining substantially steady D.C. from a source of pulsating current, e.g. the output from a rectifier R, the arrangement comprising a series choke L1, provision is made for obtaining a substantially steady voltage differing from the potential of either of the main output terminals by taking a tapping from the input side of the choke L through a choke L2 which is inductively coupled to the choke L1 in such manner that the pulsating current in the latter introduces a compensating voltage ripple in the choke L2. The load W on the main smoothing circuit may be the plate circuit of a thermionic amplifier and the potential derived through the choke L2 may be used as a grid biassing voltage. In this case the coupling between the two chokes may be such that a small ripple remains in the biassing voltage which may be used to neutralize the effect of residual ripple in the plate supply. Specification 294,250, [Class 40 (v)], is referred to.
