Abstract
Bodies or articles of predetermined shape or form such as filaments, threads, bands, plates, canes, tubes, and including powders or grains, are prepared by giving to a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and one or more aldehydes such as trioxymethylene the desired form or shape and treating the product with an acid or acid reacting catalyst such as hydrochloric acid, or by giving to a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and an acid or acid reacting catalyst the desired shape or form and treating the product with an aldehyde. Plasticizing agents, pigments and substances capable of strengthening the product may be added. In an example, a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and trioxymethylene is shaped and the article treated in a hot bath of aqueous hydrochloric acid. Specification 351,082* is referred to.
