326,070. Keller, A. V. April 19, 1929. Urea-formaldehyde and like condensation products.-Resinous products are prepared by condensing urea or its derivatives, such as mono- or di-methylurea, acetylurea, and urea hydrochloride, with formaldehyde or paraformaldehyde in the presence of copper sulphate. An example is given in which urea, commercial formaldehyde, and copper sulphate are heated until a liquid semicondensate separates out, whereafter the supernatant liquid is removed and the product is dried by heat and/or reduced pressure. It may then be mixed with wood flour or other filler and the mixture moulded, with or without addition of colouring materials, &c. The greenish-blue colour of the semi-condensate may be removed or reduced by chlorination or like bleaching means before adding the filler.
