Abstract
424,292. Tilting-furnaces. JACQUES, L., 3, Rue du Chemin, Vert, Clichy, Seine, France. Oct. 23, 1933, No. 29360. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1932. [Class 51 (ii)] In a metallurgical furnace, more particularly adapted for the melting and subsequent refining of cast iron and steel, of the kind having separate and distinct heating and blowing devices, which are brought into operation in two different positions of the furnace with the charge occupying a shallow bath for the melting and a deeper bath for the refining, the heating burner h<1> is arranged radially in relation to the tilting-axis. In the furnace shown a curved portion c<1> of the internal contour forms the melting-hearth and opposite this is a flat portion c<2> through an opening in which the burner h<1> delivers at a steep angle to the normal surface of the bath. When the furnace is tilted through 90‹ in a counterclockwise direction from the position shown the tuyeres p are submerged beneath a deeper bath for the refining operation. The products of combustion are exhausted through one of the trunnions and passed to a recuperator for heating the air for combustion.
