Abstract

214,648. Levoz, T. April 17, 1923, [Convention date]. Open-hearth furnaces.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes arrangements for heating, by the combustion of gas oil, or powdered fuel, a furnace constructed in the same manner as the electrically-heated furnace shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This furnace comprises a melting-chamber A to which the materials are supplied so as to take the form of a truncated core 2, 3, 4, 5 and successive heaths or baths each provided with slag holes and communicating by controllable tapping channels. The melting- chamber A is provided with side heating-chambers 6, 7, 8, 9 around the cone of material to be treated. The subsequent hearths C and D have slag holes 14, 18 and tapping notches t, t' are provided between the hearts C and D and the hearth D and final refining hearth E respectively. When heated by the combustion of fuel the flames &c. are discharged at the melting-chamber end and the air for combustion is heated regeneratively. Specification 210,795, [Class 72, Iron &c.], is referred to. The description relating to combustion heating does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
