424,129. Stopping leaks in hose pipes. BRYANT, C., 165, High Street, High Barnet, Hertfordshire. July 11, 1933, No. 19599. [Class 99 (ii)] A device for stopping leaks or apertures in hose pipes &c., comprises a screw - threaded rod 5, provided at one end with a head which is constituted by flexible metal spiders 7, 9 and an intermediate washer 8, all of which are initially of cupshaped form, and is adapted to be inserted through the leak and then flattened out against the inner surface of the hose by a clamping nut 15 which is screwed down the rod 5 onto the hose with the interposition of washers 13, 13<a>, 14. The device is preferably provided with a flexible centering spider 12 and a supporting washer 11 therefor, the latter locating itself within the leak when the device is in position. When the device has been secured to the hose the projecting end of the rod is cut or broken off, the rod being reduced at 16 to facilitate this operation; alternatively the rod is made in two aligned lengths with the adjacent ends thereof provided with interengaging screwthreads. The extremities of the arms of the spider 9 may be formed with inwardly-directed barbs to grip the hose.
