Abstract

Rubber goods of cellular composition are prepared by mixing rubber latex with vulcanizing ingredients and, if desired, fillers, incorporating active carbon or silica gel which contains an adsorbed setting agent or an ingredient thereof, and then vulcanizing the mass. A wetting agent such as "Nekal" (A.E.M.) (Registered Trade Mark) may be added. If a type of dispersion known as "Jatex" (Registered Trade Mark) is used which is coagulated by carbon impregnated with acetic acid, the latex is protected from contact with the carbon by the addition of a substance such as "Vaseline" (Registered Trade Mark) until the mixing is complete. The pore size of the sponge may be controlled by admixture of varying amounts of untreated carbon or silica gel with the impregnated materials.
