[Class 97 (ii)] In a liquid level in which two gauge glasses are interconnected by a flexible conduit, a slidably mounted graduated scale is provided on one of the gauge glasses in addition to a fixed graduated scale to enable differences in liquid level in the two glasses to be read off directly. In the form shown, each gauge glass is supported in a vertical recess formed in a wooden casing and partly closed in front by a brass scale plate 3. The gauge glasses are interconnected by a flexible pipe 8 which may be provided inside with one or more chains or wires so that it will be longitudinally inextensible. A plate 28, graduated to correspond with the graduations on the plate 3, is slidably mounted by means of lugs 30 engaging grooves formed behind the plate 3 on one gauge glass and is provided with a handle 29. The other gauge glass may carry a device for measuring angles comprising an arm 33, Fig. 7, pivoted at one end on a peg 38 adapted to engage any one of a series of holes on the plate 3 and at the other end 34 to an arm 32, slidably mounted in a clip 35 adapted to slide on the plate 3. The angle to be measured is sighted through the space between the arms 33, 32, the latter being graduated in angles. The arms 32, 33 may be housed in a groove in the gauge glass casing when not in use. Each of the gauge glasses is provided at the top with valve mechanism 10, comprising a float 17 adapted to close the valve 15, 16 upon the first onrush of liquid and a second float 26<a> which is caused to close the valve 20, 21 by liquid which has leaked past the first valve.
