Abstract
422,998. Fluid-actuated valves. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE, Baden, Switzerland. April 10, 1934, No. 10783. Convention date, April 10, 1933. [Class 135] [See also Group XI] In order to supply steam or compressed air to scavenge the oil burner nozzles of a steam boiler when not in operation the liquid fuel and steam or compressed air are supplied to a cylinder 2, Fig. 1, through ports 4, 9 below and above a piston 3 which controls ports 1 of passages 5 leading to the burner nozzles. The position of the piston 3 is determined by a piston 7 which is pressed upwardly by a control fluid against the resistance of a spring 8. The ports 1 are of the same or slightly greater width than the piston ring 11. In a modification the piston is, as shown in Fig. 3, formed with apertures 17 which allow a scavenging supply of steam or compressed air to pass to the nozzle supply ducts through upper passages 13 just before the lower edge of the piston 14 covers or uncovers lower passages 12 allowing the passage of fuel. Instead of the piston device shown the fuel and air supply to the nozzles may be controlled by cocks or valves, e.g. needle-valves.
