Abstract
15,352. York, R. S. July 12, 1912, [Convention date]. Force-feed lubricators. -In a sight-feed lubricator for the cylinders and valves of engines operated by superheated steam or compressed air &c., of the kind in which oil is forced from a chamber by the action of steam upon a differential piston, the oil cylinder b, Fig. 1, and the steam cylinder a, are separated by an intervening space so that leakage past the oil piston c can be detected visually. Steam enters the cylinder a by a pipe m controlled by a valve. When the oil in the cylinder b is exhausted the steam is shut off, and the pistons are depressed by means of handles f, f<1>, the water of condensation escaping through a passage h in the handle f<1>, normally closed by a plug k. A spring o holds the pistons slightly above their lowest position, so that when the cylinder b is full of oil, the oil may expand if its temperature rises. The oil is forced from the cylinder b to a channel 4, Fig. 4, communicating with a number of sight-feeds, each consisting of a water chamber 8 and two sight glasses 9. To clean out any sight-feed, the oil is shut off by a valve 7, a drainage passage 12 is opened, and steam from a pipe 22 is admitted by means of a plug valve 18, the handle 19 of which works between stops 20. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) describes also means for removing the cylinder b, Fig. 1, from its supports v, consisting of slots in the edges of a flange r and a ring s which retains packing t, and also a valve in the channel 4, Fig. 4, for shutting-off all the sight-feeds except one. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
