July 21, 1933, No. 20627. [Class 108 (iii)] [See also Group XIX] A flexible coupling or suspension device for ensuring torsional oscillatory movement between two relatively-movable members 1, 2 comprises a pair of normally - inoperative co-operating leaf-springs or two co-operating sets of leaf-springs, one spring or one set of springs interconnecting the members 1, 2 and being arranged transversely to the axis of rotation thereof with oppositely-disposed ends anchored to each member on opposite sides of the axis of rotation so as to bend under torsion; while the co-operating spring or set of springs is also anchored on opposite sides of the axis of rotation and at oppositely-disposed ends to the members 1, 2 and is so arranged relatively to the first spring or set of springs as to permit restrained movement thereof during torsional movement of the members and to resist bending of the springs due to any other movement. As shown, a set of springs 4 is clamped to diametrically opposite supports 3, 5, carried respectively by the members 1, 2, while a second set of springs 4<a> is similarly secured to diametrically-opposite supports 3<a>, 5<a> and normally intersects the plane of the springs 4 at right-angles. Each set of springs may be formed from a blank into the shape of a rectangular frame in which case one of the frames is split to permit assembly. The device may be applied to pendulumactuated clocks and to measuring instruments employing an oscillating pointer, but is of particular use for supporting the oscillating cylinder of the signalling device described in Specification 406,649.
