Abstract

422,406. Lathes. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.- (National Acme Co. ; 131st Street, Ohio, U.S.A.) July 21, 1934, No. 21417. [Class 83 (iii)] In an automatic multiple-spindle screw machine such as that described in Specification 410,135, the reel supporting the outer ends of the stock bars carries a peripheral gear 41 and is indexed in unison with the work turret by a gear 40 mounted on a shaft 92 driven from a gear 38 on the work turret. The shaft 92 supports operating slides in the machine above referred to. The reel comprises discs 42 .. 44 secured to central tube 52 and carrying tubes 45 for the stock bars, which are fed through work spindles rotated from the usual central gear. The tubes are mounted in antifriction bearings 46 and the discs 43, 44 are supported on roller bearings 47 carried by floor brackets 48. The front disc is supported in a bracket 51 which also has a bearing for the cam shaft 30. A shaft 53 extending from the front disc is supported in a roller bearing in a hollow member secured to the end of the main shaft 10, so that the latter may be rotated independently of the reel.
