[Class 120 (ii).] The arbor a and driving axle a<2> of a Precision type winding machine for cross winding thread, yarn &c., are in one unit or built up to form one unit, and such unit is supported at two points b, c in anti-friction bearings of the spherical or self-aligning type, provision being made in these bearings for adjustment such that the arbor or spindle a may be placed in any desired relation with respect to the reciprocating thread guide. As shown, the outer races of the bearings b, c are mounted in cages in which they can swivel, and the tail bearing is supported in a bracket g capable of vertical adjustment with relation to the headstockf by means of vertical slots g<2> in the bracket, and of horizontal adjustment by providing horizontal slots in the headstock for the fixing bolts g<1>. A third bearing i<2> to support the outer end of the arbor, may be provided. This bearing, also of the self-aligning type, is carried by a divided arm i, i<1>, which is mounted on a shaft i<3> adjustably clamped to the headstock ; by means of a clamping screw i<4>, the arm which is located by means of a key, may be drawn back and turned out of position. By this arrangement, the bearing may be adjusted to any position, and doffing of a package is permitted.
