Abstract
422,181. Casting-machines. LAVAUD, D. S. DE, 82, Rue de la Jonquiere, Paris. April 3, 1933, No. 9968. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 9, 1933]. [Class 83 (i)] A vertical, centrifugal-casting machine has a driven mould 6b and a core 17 clamped thereto by jaws 26, actuated by the action of centrifugal force on weights 25. If the core is of sand its edge 18 comprises a metal reinforcement. The mould 6b is not thicker than the casting made and is cooled by water circulation 14, 12. It is mounted on a hollow shaft 3 on which can slide axially a feathered sleeve 30 carrying friction plates 31, 32, the latter normally resting on a fixed brake surface 36. The sleeve 30 can be raised to release the brake and press the conical plate 31 against a driven cone 35 by a foot operated lever 41 having a counterweight 43. The core or mould may have internal grooves to assist in filling and produce reinforcing ribs on the casting. A protective casing 62 is provided. Composite casting.-In a modification the core 17, Fig. 5, is of metal and holds a steel insert 66 which becomes incorporated with the brake-drum being cast.
