Abstract

421,808. Fuel -- injection pumps. OLDHAM. R., Holmwood, Cleethorpes, Lincoliishire. April 1, 1933, No. 9842. Addition to 392,618. [Class 102 (i)] In a fuel-injection pump as described in the parent Specification, in which a port communicating with the compression space is put into communication with a relief port in the barrel by a recess or passage in the plunger, and both ports are covered by the plunger during injection, the recess in the plunger has two inclined edges, so that the two ports are uncovered simultaneously in any angular position of the plunger. As shown in Fig. 2, two recesses 2, each extending half-way round the plunger and communicating with one another by a groove at their lower ends, have inclined edges 2x co-operating with a passage or groove 5 communicating with the compression space and with the suction port 6, or alternatively with a separate relief port 3, as shown. The recesses 2, Fig. 3, are at different levels, and communicate by means of a groove 2<y>. The lower recess controls the port 3 and. the upper recess controls the port 5.
