[Class 80 (ii)] In a flexible coupling of the kind in which dogs or claws 7, 8 on the driving member 2 and driven member 2a respectively engage dogs or claws 9, 15 on an intermediate member, the intermediate member is formed of at least two parts 10, 14 connected together by a freewheel clutch. In the form shown, this clutch comprises a floating nut 18 which is carried on the screw-threaded surface of the sleeve 10, while its outer, coned surface engages a coned ring 17 carried by the sleeve 14. The end thrust of the clutch is taken by the butting surfaces 12 of the sleeves 10, 14 ; these surfaces may be coned or may be provided with thrustbearings supported on springs. Initial engagement of the clutch is produced by a light spring 20 between the nut 18 and sleeve 10. The clutch may be operated by an overriding external control, such as the servo-motor described in Specification 418,601, [Group XXVI]. Oil is injected through the nozzle-shaped opening 26 in the hollow shaft 2 and retained within the sleeves 10, 14 at the radial level 29 by apertured end plates 30, 31. Ducts 34 convey oil to the screw and clutch, while overflow from the plates 30, 31 lubricates the dogs 7, 8, 9, 15. Oil from the bearings 35, also is directed by deflectors 37 and ducts 39 to the dogs.
