Abstract

1,021,480. Positive clutches. ANDRE CITROEN S.A. Sept. 30, 1963 [Sept. 28, 1962], No. 38393/63. Heading F2C. A synchronizer for connecting a first-gear pinion 7 to a driving pinion 1 comprises an axially movable sleeve 4 splined to the pinion 1 and the end of which has dog teeth 10 engaging axial grooves 11 in a sleeve 12 integral with a friction cone member 13 engageable with the pinion 1, a spring friction ring 17 coupling the sleeves 4, 12 together when contacted by the teeth 10. The sides of the teeth 10 have tapered balk surfaces 15, 151, Fig. 4 (not shown), and the end portions 111 of the axial grooves are provided with complementary surfaces 18, Fig. 5 (not shown), on the side of the grooves effective during gear change with the drive pinion 1 rotating, such surfaces not being provided on the other side of the grooves to avoid possible obstruction of the teeth 10 during gear change with the pinion 1 stationary. Upon final engagement of the teeth 10 in the grooves 11<SP>1</SP> the sleeve 4 engages dogs 9 on a ring 8 splined to the hub portion of the pinion 7, to couple the latter to the drive pinion 1.
