Abstract

421,024. Medical irrigation apparatus. FRUMUSANU, (known as FRUMASAN), J., 43, Avenue Pierre Ier. de Serbie, and SUAREZ DE MENDOZA, F. F. D., 52, Rue Francois Ier, both in Paris. March 21, 1934, No. 8850. [Class 81 (ii)] In intestinal or stomach irrigation apparatus u partially evacuated metal or glass reservoir 61, and a glass reservoir 62 containing air under pressure, are connected, by pipes 14, 18, to a three way cock 12 whereby either may be connected at will with a rectal or other nozzle 7, and, by pipes 64, 67, to a pump 63 which produces the required suction and pressure. Pipe 67 contains an air reservoir 66 having a valve 68 for regulating the pressure between 1À5 and 3 metres of mercury, and reservoir 61 has a valve 77 maintaining the vacuum at 35 cm. of mercury. For one setting of the cock 12 the pressure in reservoir 62 forces irrigation liquid therein through pipe 14, a sight feed, comprising an inverted glass vessel 45 screwed into a socket, and thence through cock 12 and a pipe 15 to the nozzle 7. On reversing the cock the liquid is withdrawn by the vacuum, through pipe 11 and a vessel 10, to reservoir 61. Reservoir 62 carries a thermometer 80 and a liquid-level operated blow-off valve 82. Reservoir 61 has a drain pipe 70 controlled by a cock 71 coupled with a cock 72 in a leak pipe. The reservoir is also furnished with a gauge 76, a flushing pipe 75, and an indicator for the presence of liquid, comprising a pair of plates 73, extending almost to the bottom of the reservoir, electric current passing across which, in the presence of liquid, lights a lamp 74 thus giving an assurance that cock 71 is closed during the irrigation. The vessel 10 comprises a glass cover secured to a base by a detachable clamping ring, the base carrying the drain off pipe 18 controlled by a cock 19<1> and having passing therethrough a lead-in pipe 91 bent over at its upper end, a vacuum equalizing pipe 93, and a siphon pipe 92 which leads into pipe 18 below cock 19<1> and ensures emptying of the vessel when the cock is closed. A strainer permitting retention and inspection of solid matter may be mounted in the vessel beneath pipe 91. The cock 12 is held in its on and off positions by a spring and ball detent. In order to inject a vaccine or medicament two ampoules 84e, 84f connected by a pipe 84<g>, are mounted in conical sockets one on each side of a cock 84<h> in the pipe 15. On opening taps in the sockets and closing cock 84<h> air in ampoule 84<f> can be forced into ampoule 84<e> thus forcing the medicament &c. contained therein into the pipe 15 and thence into the body. The cock 84<h> may also be employed to control the flow of irrigation liquid. The apparatus may be mounted in a compartmented cabinet containing one above the other the pump 63, the reservoir 66, the reservoir 61, and the reservoir 62, the parts 10, 45, 12, and 84<e>, 84<f> being mounted upon a laterally-projecting cylindrical housing for the flexible tubes employed.
