Abstract
420,992. Street &c. lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and BEGGS, S. S., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. July 4, 1933, No. 18953. [Class 75 (iv)] In a directional lighting fitting adapted to receive two or more light sources of different colours, some or all of the directional elements are so arranged with respect to the sources that each element directs into some preferred direction from the fitting a greater fraction of the light from one source than from a differently coloured source, and into some other preferred direction from the fitting a smaller fraction of the light from the first source than from the second source. A directional element is defined as any reflecting and /or refracting and /or diffusing device adapted to cause light falling on it to be distributed differently upon leaving it. In the street-lamp shown, (in horizontal section), the elements 1, 2, which are linear refractors and fluted surfaces of the kind described in Specification 408,419, direct most of the light from the high-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp 5 along the road-way, as shown by the arrows 7, and direct light from the tungsten filament lamp or neon lamp 6 preferentially onto the near pavement, as shown by the arrows 8. The semicircular end 3 is of opal glass. The light sources may be linear. According to the Provisional Specification, the fitting is shaped as a right prism.
