Abstract
420,963. Non-return valves. MOSS, E. W., 75, Victoria Street, London.-(Inger. soll-Rand Co. ; 15, Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A.) July 2, 1934, No. 19471. [Class 135] [See also Group XXXII] A non-return valve particularly adapted for use on air compressors comprises a flat valve plate J guided to work between a valve seat with two concentric series of ports K and a stop plate C provided with similar ports L in staggered relationship with the ports K. The valve is guided by the engagement of its inner periphery with a washer F clamped between the seat and guard plate by a bolt D. The washer is so dimensioned that the overhang of the valve plate is reduced to a minimum, notches P being provided to permit the passage of fluid. The valve is loaded by a flat spring plate R reciprocable between the stop and valve plates and provided with arms U concentric with the spring plate pressing at their free ends against the valve plate. The arms are initially curved out of the plane of the spring plate throughout their length so that during the opening of the valve the area of contact between the spring arms and the stop plate will gradually increase and the springy portions of the arms will correspondingly decrease towards both extremities of each spring arm. In a modification (Fig. 8) the arms have a short curved portion to one side of the plane of the plate and a longer reversely curved portion on the other side of the plane of the plate.
