Abstract

<PICT:0419610/III/1> In apparatus for the electrical precipitation of suspended particles in gases, the insulators e supporting the discharge electrodes d<3> are arranged in a chamber a<1> which is separate from the chamber in which the precipitation occurs. The discharge electrodes are suspended from a conducting member d, carried by the insulators, by means of a member d<1> which is of tubular form and arranged as a feeding member for clean gas which passes out via outlets b<9> and prevents dirty gas passing into the insulator chamber. A tubular member b<1> is provided in the diaphragm b separating the two chambers, and, if desired, an inverted bell d<4> may depend from the member d<1> so that its edges may extend below an annular vessel b<2> which may be filled with insulating liquid to form a liquid seal. The vessel b<2> may be provided with an overflow pipe and inlet and drain pipes for the liquid. The tubular member d<1> has an insulating portion e arranged within the chamber a<1>.
