Abstract

<PICT:0422777/III/1> <PICT:0422777/III/2> In an electrical precipitator for treating gases containing corrosive substances such as phosphoric acid, the collecting electrodes 3, Fig. 1, are made of a non-metallic acid-resisting conductive or semi-conductive material such as carbon or a composition comprising acid-resisting ceramic substances and carbon, are supported by beams 11 outside the gas treating chamber 1 and support members 10<a>, of non-metallic acid-resisting material which form the roof of the gas chamber. The electrodes 3 are in the form of cylindrical flues and are supported at their upper ends on the beams 11 by collars 10 positioned in grooves below the level of the tops, the space above the collars being filled with cement mortar 12 and an earthing sheet of lead 13 being dressed over the ends of the electrodes. The members 10<a> are in the form of split carbon collars mounted in grooves on the outside of the electrodes. Alternatively, the collars may be made in one piece and secured between two parts 3<a>, 3<b> of the electrodes as shown in Fig. 7. The discharge electrodes 4 which are supported from a conducting beam 5, are maintained taut by porcelain weights 8 and centred in the collecting electrodes by members 9.
