[Class 39(iii)] An arrangement of electrodes for electric smelting furnaces for glass, water glass and the like, comprises a central electrode 5 of steel or wherein a set comprises a pair or a group of pairs of opposed electrodes, arranged transversely to the length of the furnace and between which the smelted material transmits the electric current, the sets of electrodes being located at alternating differing heights in the furnace. The figure illustrates one embodiment of the invention with four pairs of opposed electrodes.
