Abstract

593,513. Glass furnaces. VERRERIE SOUCHON - NEUVESEL VERRERIES SOUCHON, NEUVESEL, RICHARME ET D'EVIAN REUNIES. Oct. 22, 1941, No. 13595. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1940. [Class 39 (iii)] A glass melting furnace comprises horizontally movable electrodes projecting into the molten charge and arranged in pairs wherein the return lead 21 from one of each pair 3, 6 of electodes is arranged substantially parallel to and below the electrodes. The electrodynamic action between the parallel currents deflects the current in the glass towards the surface and assists in the circulation of the molten charge. The electro-dynamic action may be either weakened by arranging the return lead to be shunted by an upper looped lead 22 or strengthened by arranging the lead 21 to form a loop or series of loops round the furnace.
